Artwork

My personal artwork is informed by my outer environment through photography and my exploration in “seeing”. Individual works evolve into a series of work through contemplation of the subject from various points of view and personal observations. As my personal artwork always communicates a present state-of-mind, it is representative of an inner experience and just as many of my points-of-view and observations originate from within as from without. As personal expression, my artwork represents my views, thoughts, feelings and sensory perceptions and my relationship with life and environment. I enjoy responding to the imagery or project as it emerges and am always amazed by the hidden aspects of the work that appear and cause the work to take on a life of its own. Art, to me, is the creative expression of an artist's being and it is in the process of creating art that my being is revealed and celebrated.

Media: I consider my images to be digital painting with a photographic base, although the end result is a digital print or handmade book. Printmaking, whether traditional or digital, has been my primary choice of media for many years. It is the process involved in this indirect method of making art that intrigues me and continues to hold my interest. It is also within the limitations of this media that my imagination is challenged. My handbound "artist" books are more than containers of prints. Each image, word, page or format itself is conceived as a book object, a "whole" design. Whether creating individual works as separate images, as a series or as a book, the medium is an intrical part of the whole.

Purchase: If you are interested in purchasing large scale prints on archival quality substrates, either paper or canvas, please contact me directly via the "contact" page. If you would like to use any portion of these works for any reason whatsoever, please contact me for licensing information. All images of artworks © Lauri Collins.

All important things in art have always originated from the deepest feeling about the mystery of Being.
